Counseling Services

What is Counseling?

Counseling services are provided to children and teens who have been physically and sexually abused. After your child has completed the Forensic Interview, counseling is offered to the family in order to reduce the symptoms of abuse and to prevent long term effects of abuse. Your child will learn to process their feelings and express them appropriately. Safety skills will be addressed to help your child learn healthy boundaries. The parents’ needs will also be addressed and support will be to all members of the family.

  • Who can attend counseling?
Our therapist welcomes children and adults of all ages to participate in counseling.
  • How long do counseling sessions last?
One counseling session usually lasts 45-50 minutes. Counseling will continue until the parent and counselor agree that the child’s symptoms have decreased.
  • How much do counseling sessions cost?
The child's or adult's health insurance is billed for the sessions. If the family has no health insurance, the Child Advocacy Center will cover the cost of counseling.
